Title III STEM
LoboTrack to Success

The Title III LoboTrack to Success in STEM (LTS) grant aspires to engage the talent, motivation, energy, and aspirations from within our university community to address the identified national imperative to attract, retain, and graduate increased numbers of Hispanic and low-income students with STEM degrees.

Title III STEM LTS Programs

Title III STEM LTS proposes a STEM Internship Program within the College of Agriculture, Life, and Physical Sciences (ALPS), to provide an environment to help retain students interested in STEM careers, while encouraging the growth of faculty-student relationships and a personalized education in potential STEM careers.

The goal is to give students opportunities to work with STEM faculty to explore special interests within the students’ chosen degree plan as to better prepare for STEM careers, while developing communication skills, specialized knowledge, and hands-on experience.

The Supplemental Instructor Program aims to support undergraduate STEM students through the more challenging courses in the various degree plans offered by the Agriculture, Life and Physical Sciences (ALPS) college.

Supplemental Instructors (SIs) will audit their assigned course and hold tutoring and study sessions to discuss the key concepts and provide additional support to the enrolled undergraduates. SIs provide subject-specific academic tutoring, as well as more general tutoring and skill building workshops, for their assigned students to help guide success in college and career.

As an extension to our Faculty/Mentor Internship Program housed within the university, Title III STEM LTS is partnering up with STEM organizations within the Big Bend Community to pilot an external Internship Program. This opportunity will allow students to understand the necessary skillsets and training most beneficial as professionals in their field.

Summer field courses are frequently transformative for students in disciplines that involve fieldwork, often leaving lasting impressions and memories. To make these field courses more accessible, Title III STEM LTS is providing support for multiple field courses through scholarships, new equipment, technology upgrades, and additional resources.
