Description:

Purpose of Job: Works with Borderlands Research Institute professors and graduate students to organize and process acoustic recordings of bird calls. This position will use acoustic analysis software to identify bird species from recordings of their calls and help summarize these data. Most recordings will be of high-elevation nocturnal birds and quail but may also include data from other habitats. The student will also have the opportunity to help deploy the acoustic recording devices, working alongside graduate students and other avian ecologists.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare acoustic data for analysis.
  • Use acoustic analysis software to process data.
  • Manage a database of the information collected.
  • Will have the opportunity (not required) to deploy acoustic recording devices in the field.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.
  • Responsible for proper management of data (organization, security, etc.).

Supervision: General instructions and work periodically reviewed by Conservation Biology faculty and graduate students.

STEM Internship Program:

This position is part of the Title III STEM Lobotrack to Success (LTSSRSU STEM Faculty Internship Program. Along with the normal job duties, the student will learn from the faculty supervisor about the STEM workforce, different career pathways, research, and more. Students will gain knowledge, experience, and professional connections in the STEM field. Students will have access to professional development tools throughout the internship program (resume building, interview practices, etc.).
