Dr. Herrera has been a faculty member within the kinesiology department at SRSU since January of 2016. He served the progam coordinator for the MS - Health and Human Performance program from 2017 to 2022, and department chair from 2019-2022. Dr. Herrrera also served as the Associate Dean for Online Programs and Distance Education (2022-23). 

Dr. Herrera holds several degrees: PhD in Health Sciences (2010) from the University of Sydney, Australia; Master of Business Administration (MBA, 2018), Master of Arts in Behavioral Science (2006) from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from The Ohio State University (2003).

Dr. Herrera is certified in online teaching through the Online Learning Consortium and Sam Houston State University. Previously, he chaired the Online Distance Education Committee, Strategic Plan Leadership Committee, as well as the Campus Wellness Initiative, University Curriculum Committee and the Department Chairs Council.
