Amy Post-McCorkle, PhD
Biography
Amy Post-McCorkle is Chair of the Department of Languages, Speech, and Communication and Professor of Speech Communication at Midland College. She also serves as an Adjunct Professor teaching online at Sul Ross State University, Oklahoma City Community College, Mid-America Christian University, and Rose State College. Amy teaches both Communication as well as Composition classes. Amy earned her Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Oklahoma in 2009, and she has 28+ years of teaching experience at the collegiate level.
Amy knows first-hand the overwhelming fear, anticipation, and excitement that a speaker may feel/experience before and during a speech. Amy has taught thousands of students not only how to overcome the fear of public speaking, but also how to speak with confidence and to captivate any given audience. During her career, Amy has taught 250+ sections of Public Speaking to date. Amy also serves as the Speaker Coach for NextGen TALKS OK as well as Midland Young Leaders Challenge.
Previously, from July 2012-April-2017, Amy served as the Department Chair and Professor for General Education at Brown Mackie College, Oklahoma City. In addition to teaching, Amy managed and supervised all adjunct professors who taught General Education classes. Furthermore, she served as the General Education Representative for the BMC-OKC Higher Learning Commission Accreditation for all Brown Mackie Campuses. She also facilitated re-entry, tutoring and Academic Achievement Plans. Finally, Amy also served on various committees at the institution level such as the Library Resource Committee and Graduation Committee. Amy left the job due to BMC's closing in 2017.
Amy began her teaching career as a Teaching Assistant at Oklahoma State University from 1996 to 1998, where she received her Master’s Degree in Speech Communication. Upon graduating from OSU, Amy entered a Ph.D. program in Communication at the University of Oklahoma, where she worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Throughout her graduate career at OU, Amy also worked as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma City Community College, and Oklahoma City University. As Amy continued to pursue her studies at OU, she spent her summer months teaching for the Junior State of America Summer School program at both Yale and Stanford Universities.
