Dr. John M. Decman is a Professor of Educational Leadership and Ed.D. Program Director. After serving as a school administrator in the Midwest, Dr. Decman joined the Educational Leadership faculty at the University of Houston–Clear Lake in 2001, where he was a tenured faculty member and held various leadership positions including Program Director and Coordinator for Administration and Supervision.
Dr. Decman earned his Doctor of Education in Administration and Supervision from Ball State University, a Master of Science in Education from Indiana University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Teaching from Purdue University. His extensive scholarship includes numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference presentations focused on educational leadership, superintendent practices, organizational management, and opportunity issues in education. Among his current projects, Dr. Decman is co-editing a textbook, Demystifying the Dissertation, scheduled for publication in 2026.
A former Executive Director of the Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration and current Executive Board Member of the International Council of Professors of Educational Leadership, Dr. Decman is a recognized leader in the field. He was awarded the James A. Vornberg TCPEA Living Legend Award in 2024 and the Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration Educator of the Year Award in 2019. His research interests center on leadership development, ethical leadership practices, and the preparation of school administrators to meet the evolving demands of K-12 education.
