Dr. John M. Decman is a Professor of Educational Leadership and Ed.D. Program Director at Sul Ross State University, beginning in January 2026. With over two decades of experience in higher education, Dr. Decman previously served as Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Houston–Clear Lake, where he was a tenured faculty member and held various leadership positions including Program Director and Coordinator for Administration and Supervision.
Dr. Decman earned his Doctor of Education in Administration and Supervision from Ball State University, a Master of Science in Education from Indiana University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Teaching from Purdue University. His extensive scholarship includes numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference presentations focused on educational leadership, superintendent practices, organizational management, and social justice in education.
Currently serving as Executive Director of the Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration since 2020 and as an Executive Board Member of the International Council of Professors of Educational Leadership since 2024, Dr. Decman is a recognized leader in the field. He was awarded the James A. Vornberg TCPEA Living Legend Award in 2024 and the Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration Educator of the Year Award in 2019. His research interests center on leadership development, educational equity, and the preparation of school administrators to meet the evolving demands of K-12 education.
