Purpose
The Online Distance Education Committee is responsible for advising university policies, procedures, and practices related to online instruction at all Sul Ross State University campuses. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, evaluations of online course offerings, trainings for online instructors, and training for online students.
Mission
- Cultivate a culture of excellence and innovation in online teaching and learning.
- Develop a comprehensive Quality Matters (QM) and AI Literacy Training Program for faculty.
- Provide opportunities for QM course certification and AI-enhanced course design workshops.
- Establish an Outstanding Online Teaching and Innovation Award recognizing creative and ethical integration of AI in online learning.
- Explore and implement forward-looking practices in online pedagogy and structure, such as 8-week accelerated courses, asynchronous flexible learning, and AI-assisted tutoring.
- Pursue excellence in online competency-based education (CBE) by exploring course and program models.
- Explore online undergraduate programs and core curriculum pathways that support dual credit partnerships and degree completion opportunities, expanding access for high school, transfer, and returning adult learners across West Texas and beyond.
