University Governance

The statement on university governance is included in Section 1.11 of the Administrative Policy Manual.

I. Sul Ross State University is organized into five major divisions of activity which make up the Executive Committee.

  1. Academic and Student Affairs
  2. Finance and Operations
  3. Enrollment Management
  4. Information Technology Services
  5. Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College

II. University Policies and operating procedures are addressed in four principal publications.

  2. Faculty Handbook
  3. Student Handbook
  4. Catalogs

III. Faculty Governance at Sul Ross is provided by the Faculty Assembly on the Alpine campus and the Faculty Senate at the RGC Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde campuses. The Alpine Faculty Assembly and the RGC Faculty Senate oversee independent and joint councils.

IV. Staff Governance at Sul Ross is provided by the Staff Councils at the Alpine and RGC campuses.

V. University Committees and Teams are detailed in Administrative Policy Manual sections 1.07 and 1.08 appointed by the President of the University with the advice and input from Faculty Assembly, Faculty Senate, the Student Government Association, and the Executive Cabinet.

VI. The Student Government Association is the student government organization.

VII. General Faculty and Staff Meetings are called by the President’s Office and held during the course of the academic year.
