Dr. Esra Balcioglu holds a Ph.D. in Forensic Chemistry and Toxicology from Ankara University's Institute for Health Sciences in 2019. She also earned an M.S. in Forensic Sciences from the Turkish National Police University, Institute for Security Sciences in 2011, and a B.S. in Biology from Ankara University in 2003.

Between 2013 and 2014, I have been as a researcher in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, Department of Allied Health Sciences at De Montfort University in Leicester, UK. I worked as a researcher in the Health Sciences Center, Department of Cell Biology and Biochemistry at Texas Tech University between 2023-2024.

Her academic discipline includes Biology, Forensic Sciences, Forensic Toxicology, Forensic Chemistry, and Forensic Toxicology. Her research interests span Toxic materials, Toxicogenetics, the effects of DNA Damages, Forensic Evidence, Biological Materials, Protein Analysis, and Biochemistry.

Dr. Balcioglu's extensive professional experience at Ankara University (2002-2019) includes diverse roles within the Chemistry Department, the Proteomics Unit at the Institute of Biotechnology, the Central Laboratory at the Faculty of Pharmacy, and the Metabolism Unit at the Faculty of Medicine. She also served as Vice Chairman of the Turkish Association of Forensic Toxicology from 2017-2022.

She speaks Turkish, German, and English, and she enjoys working with students from diverse backgrounds. Since 2022, she’s been living in Texas. She is continuing her work in Chemistry, Forensic Science, and Criminal justice education since July 2025.
