Dr. Ferhat Ozturk joined the Sul Ross State University International on September 1, 2025, as Associate Professor of Biology and the founding director of the Biology Program at the Eagle Pass campus. An educator, researcher, and mentor, he specializes in the medicinal properties of honey and its applications in health and disease prevention. He leads the USDA–funded HONEY Pathway initiative, which provides underrepresented students with hands-on research, workforce training, and community engagement opportunities in apiculture and biomedical sciences. With extensive teaching experience from high school to university levels, Dr. Ozturk is passionate about fostering student success through experiential learning, peer mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration. His research and outreach have been presented nationally and internationally, advancing both scientific knowledge and public awareness of honey’s therapeutic potential.
