Dr. Billy Jack Ray is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Kinesiology at Sul Ross State University, where he is currently in his ninth year of service. He also serves as Graduate Program Coordinator, overseeing curriculum development, assessment, accreditation alignment, and student progression across the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs.

Dr. Ray has extensive experience teaching and designing courses across the kinesiology curriculum, with emphasis on sport management, coaching, leadership, biomechanics, health, and applied professional practice. His undergraduate teaching includes courses such as Introduction to Kinesiology, Nutrition, Principles of Athletic Coaching, Motor Development, Biomechanics, Fitness Testing and Exercise Prescription, Legal Issues in Sport, Exercise for Special Populations, Recreation Administration, Sport Sociology, Facilities and Event Management, and Senior Capstone, as well as multiple special topics, independent studies, and practicum experiences.

At the graduate level, Dr. Ray teaches courses in Graduate Research, Group Dynamics, Motor Learning and Control, Sport Leadership, Strategic Management in Sport, Sport Finance and Sales, Applied Sport Marketing, Event and Facility Management, Health and Human Behavior, Sport Law, and Graduate Practicum in Kinesiology.

Dr. Ray’s professional interests include curriculum innovation, experiential learning, and the integration of leadership development within kinesiology and sport-based education. His work reflects a strong commitment to applied learning, workforce preparation, and student success. Through his teaching, administrative leadership, and program development efforts, he continues to support academic excellence and professional readiness within the Sul Ross State University kinesiology community.
