Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans:

Advancing Graduate Programs en la Frontera

Designed to provide, improve, and expand available services. This project will provide greater opportunities for post-baccalaureate level educational attainment and will also help graduates improve their socioeconomic status

Goal 1: Increase Disadvantaged Student Access to Graduate Program

Goal 2: Improve Support Services for Graduate Students to Facilitate Degree Completion

Objective 1: Improve Support Services for Graduate Students to Facilitate Degree Completion.

Careers and well-paying jobs in sports administration are currently increasing and many require master’s level degrees, therefore this grant will build a new degree program that is responsive to this growing industry and features management skills that have been identified in the workforce literature.

Objective 2: Enhance Master of Science, Animal Science Degree

Animal science continues to provide substantial employment opportunities in the targeted geographic region and the current degree needs to be reviewed and updated.

Objective 2a: Obtain CACREP Certification for counseling programs.

The state of Texas will require CACREP Certification for all counseling programs in 2022 requiring assessment of courses and pedagogy (Fall 2023 the state of Texas canceled this requirement)

Objective 2b: Develop an EdD in Educational Leadership program.

Many school districts are requiring a doctorate for their superintendents and principals. Therefore this grant will build a new degree program to meet this growing need and keep students competitive. This will be the first doctoral program at Sul Ross.

Objective 3: Develop a Master of Science in Forensic Science degree program.

According to the review of Sul Ross degrees by Hanover Research Solutions, this is an emerging field in an area where the school is strong.  This is a growing field with only two universities offering a master’s degree and eight offering a bachelor’s. Therefore this grant seeks to build a new degree program to address this need, which features three tracks to meet students’ needs. Promote it to the area Border Patrol with whom Sul Ross signed an MOU to provide assistance with helping their employees and employees’ families to get degrees.

Objective 4: Improve Support services necessary to increase retention in graduate programs.

Graduate students from families of poverty and first-generation require support that is not currently available to Graduate students. This grant will develop support services as part of the Graduate Enrollment Management initiative based on the identified needs of graduate students who have complex and unique challenges to persist in graduate programs.
