Dr. Stephen Read Hager is a teacher and published scholar of modern and contemporary British and American literature specializing in the relationship between the modern novel and twentieth-century cinema. His research explores how developments in film changed the ways twentieth-century writers represented perception, public space, and the pressures of the interwar years. His scholarship has appeared in Twentieth-Century Literature and the Journal of Urban Cultural Studies. At Sul Ross State, he teaches courses in British Literature, film, and composition, with interests ranging form medieval literature to literary modernism and contemporary culture. Dr. Hager graduated summa cum laude from Emory University and earned his Ph.D. in English from the University of Virginia in 2025. He is especially interested in helping students hone their skills as critical thinkers and persuasive writers.
