DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

Behavioral Health Counselors help people deal with behavioral, mental, and emotional issues by: evaluating clients’ mental and physical health, addiction, or problematic behavior, working with clients to develop goals and treatment plans, using counseling and therapy techniques to help clients address their issues, and helping clients develop skills to cope with their challenges.  They also help clients improve their self-esteem, promote positive changes in their behavior and connect clients with other services and support groups.

Behavioral Health Counselors help people identify signs of addiction and other destructive behaviors, spread mental health awareness and empowering marginalized voices. They work in a variety of settings, including schools, prisons, hospitals, business settings, community health centers, and private practice.

If you are a certified school counselor with a master’s in counseling, you are eligible to complete the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) coursework as a non-degree seeking LPC-only student.

If you are ready to take the next step in your career, Sul Ross State University can help get you there as a Behavioral Health Counselor with MEd.
