Jose U. Mora, Ph.D. in Economics (2002) University of Illinois at Chicago

Master of Arts in Economics (1999). University of Illinois at Chicago.

B. A. Economics (1991). Universidad de Los Andes, Venezuela.

Before joining Sul Ross, Professor Mora worked in different universities. He began his career at Universidad de Los Andes in Merida (Venezuela) where he worked at the Institute for Economics Research for more than 18 years. Then, he moved to Colombia where he worked as an Associate Professor at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Cali for approximately 8 years. He has taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago, during his graduate school, at the University of Vermont (2007-2009), and at Creighton University where he was a visiting Assistant Professor at the Menard Family Institute for Economic Inquiry (2022-2023). Additionally, Professor Mora has published more than 30 articles and book chapters on the macroeconomic effects of domestic and foreign shocks in Latin American countries, paying special attention to shocks derived from their own economic policy, from their economic agreements with other Latin American countries, and from their exposure to international markets as commodity exporters. More recently, he has been exploring other topics associated with global studies, where he has discussed issues linked to the Venezuelan crisis, and with behavioral economics, where he has analyzed how stochastic shocks affect consumers´ decisions. Professor Mora enjoys hiking and sports, but mostly soccer, and is a great fan of Real Madrid, his national soccer team (La Vinotinto), and Estudiantes de Merida, his hometown team in Venezuela.
