Responsibilities
The Sully Reads Committee shall provide oversight in matters relating to the SRSU common reading program called “Sully Reads.” The committee shall oversee the selection of the book (or set of materials) for each academic year, coordinate with the Director of New Student Programs (to get the books purchased before the first New Student Orientation), identify campus-wide activities that support the theme of the book, and inform the Director of the First Year Seminar (FYS) so that the FYS instructors can be notified of the book title and possible activities during their spring training. The committee will encourage faculty members to search for ways to incorporate the common reading into their syllabi.
Calendar of Duties:
- November: Present a slate of books to the faculty to vote on
- December: Share the book selection with the Director of New Student Programs
- End of February: Identify campus-wide activities that support the theme of the book
- End of March: Share the book selection and activity suggestions with the Director of the First Year Seminar

Membership
Committee shall consist of eight members appointed by the President, including three faculty members nominated by the Faculty Assembly (one member each from ANRS, A&S, and E&PS), a librarian, the Director of New Student Programs, the Director of Lobo Den, the Provost, and one student. The faculty members shall be full-time faculty members at Sul Ross-Alpine. The student member shall be a full-time student.
